Produced by: Hua Yi Bros
Running time: 135 minutes
Starring:
Zhang Jingchu / 张静初
Chen Daoming / 陈道明

Synopsis:
In the aftermath of the 1976 Tangshan earthquake, a rescue team informs a mother that her seven-year-old twins Da and Deng are trapped together under a slab of concrete. Lifting the slab in any way will kill one of her children - lifting it one way will save the daughter at the expense of her son; lifting it the other will save the son at the expense of her daughter. Heartbroken, she is forced to choose between her children, and finally decides to save the boy. Her decision, however, is overheard by her daughter, who whispers "Ma..." as the screen goes black. The mother clings to her daughter's body before being pulled away to take care of Da, "her one child who still lives." Later, in the midst of the rains following the earthquake, Deng wakes up in a sea of bodies, next to the body of her father. Reluctant to be returned to the woman who chose to abandon her, Deng is adopted, but remains emotionally scarred.

In 2008, she volunteers to join rescuers in the wake of the Sichuan earthquake and returns to China. Through the experience, she finds forgiveness for her family, and reunites with her mother and twin brother after 32 years.

Review:
Yes, this is the best movie I've watched in my entire 17 years of life.
I mean it, best, and take it that I'd forgotten about other 'best' films I've watched.
In just 135 minutes in play, this film, filled with emotions, portrayed lives of people of an Earthquake aftermath. The mother who had her husband killed in an Earthquake, has to choose to save one of her 2 children who are stucked under a slab. After a long mental battle, her whisper changed her entire life, leaving her to live remorsefully. She chose to save her son, and miraculously, her daughter survived, living with the fact that her mother 'chose' to end her life.
She hated her mother for choosing that option, and later in the film, she hated herself for being 'selfish' for thinking to have her brother die.

This film with a small budget created a miracle, leaving audiences with wet eyes after watching.
Few of the touching parts were when Wang Deng(daughter) said to her foster father:
'我不是忘不了,是忘不掉!'
What she couldn't forget, was the fact that her biological mother actually chose her to die.
Another was:
'人生中有几个三十二年?'
'How many 32 years do you have?'
As the family only reunited after 32 years of separation, and Wang Deng(daughter) held hatred for her mother for 32 years. Finding out that her mother lived in guilt, emotional agony and remorse for the past 32 years, Wang Deng(daughter) forgives her.

If there is an impartial qualifications of winners for the Oscar, this remarkable film should be considered finalist.

My words can't describe the greatness of this film, just go and catch it and feel it.
Prepare yourself tissue papers if you don't wanna wet your shirt.
Go & catch it now!
