Synopsis:
Based on Ah Niu's childhood experiences, the film takes us to a small town where we're introduced to a timid boy nicknamed Botak (Ah Niu), who is incapable of making a good cup of Joe at his father's old fashioned coffee shop, and his love interest Da Jia Yu (Fighting Fish played by Angelica Lee), a feisty girl who boldly beats up bullies and whose eyes can shoot darts. From there, we meet a handful of quirky supporting characters: Big troublemaker Ma Li Fan (Gary Chaw with Aaron Kwok hairstyle) who frequently challenges Jia Yu at silly bets ranging from "guli" to fish fighting; his silent sister Ma Li Bing (Fish Leong) who keeps on drinking Barlie and has a crush on Botak; and charcoal seller Prince (Victor Wong) whom Botak's overweight sister (Lim Ching Miau) dreams of marrying.

Review:
The story was set in early 80s which is based largely on Ah Niu childhood experiences where he grew up in Pulau Penang. In attempt to revive Malaysian Chinese Movie industry, he placed quite a lot of effort into this movie.
This film displayed a heart warming story that surrounds the blooming of the few puppy love with the various characters in the village.
A local production that gathers a bunch of top Malaysian Chinese Artist together, most of them are famous singers and song writers.
Director Ah Niu proved to others that he can just not only sing and write songs, he can direct a movie too.
This kampong-based film is really great, I would recommend you peeps to watch it!
But first, watch Aftershock if you haven't.
& hope that Ah Niu will come up with more great films! ^^

Running time: 135 minutes
Starring:
Zhang Jingchu / 张静初
Chen Daoming / 陈道明
Lu Yi / 陆毅

Synopsis:
In the aftermath of the 1976 Tangshan earthquake, a rescue team informs a mother that her seven-year-old twins Da and Deng are trapped together under a slab of concrete. Lifting the slab in any way will kill one of her children - lifting it one way will save the daughter at the expense of her son; lifting it the other will save the son at the expense of her daughter. Heartbroken, she is forced to choose between her children, and finally decides to save the boy. Her decision, however, is overheard by her daughter, who whispers "Ma..." as the screen goes black. The mother clings to her daughter's body before being pulled away to take care of Da, "her one child who still lives." Later, in the midst of the rains following the earthquake, Deng wakes up in a sea of bodies, next to the body of her father. Reluctant to be returned to the woman who chose to abandon her, Deng is adopted, but remains emotionally scarred.

In 2008, she volunteers to join rescuers in the wake of the Sichuan earthquake and returns to China. Through the experience, she finds forgiveness for her family, and reunites with her mother and twin brother after 32 years.

Review:
Yes, this is the best movie I've watched in my entire 17 years of life.
I mean it, best, and take it that I'd forgotten about other 'best' films I've watched.
In just 135 minutes in play, this film, filled with emotions, portrayed lives of people of an Earthquake aftermath. The mother who had her husband killed in an Earthquake, has to choose to save one of her 2 children who are stucked under a slab. After a long mental battle, her whisper changed her entire life, leaving her to live remorsefully. She chose to save her son, and miraculously, her daughter survived, living with the fact that her mother 'chose' to end her life.
She hated her mother for choosing that option, and later in the film, she hated herself for being 'selfish' for thinking to have her brother die.

This film with a small budget created a miracle, leaving audiences with wet eyes after watching.
Few of the touching parts were when Wang Deng(daughter) said to her foster father:
'我不是忘不了,是忘不掉!'
What she couldn't forget, was the fact that her biological mother actually chose her to die.
Another was:
'人生中有几个三十二年?'
'How many 32 years do you have?'
As the family only reunited after 32 years of separation, and Wang Deng(daughter) held hatred for her mother for 32 years. Finding out that her mother lived in guilt, emotional agony and remorse for the past 32 years, Wang Deng(daughter) forgives her.

If there is an impartial qualifications of winners for the Oscar, this remarkable film should be considered finalist.

My words can't describe the greatness of this film, just go and catch it and feel it.
Prepare yourself tissue papers if you don't wanna wet your shirt.
Go & catch it now!

Review:
Hmmm... it's a not-bad film, bah.
Not much of fighting scenes and poor effect, compared to Hollywood films.
Good effort for HKFilm to come up with sci-fi based films but they should just leave it to the Americans. It's just like Hollywood coming up with Kung-fu films, cannot make it.
All these are still bearable, as they are considered not bad already, whereby Hollywood's sci-fi films are great.
Most importantly, Zhang Jingchu's screen appearances are so few!
I can't stand this at all, man!
Laughs.. Okay, lah, this film is so-so, lah.

Trailer:

Review:
Okay, very interesting plot. I wasn't expecting such a big twist but maybe it's because of myself, I was watching that film in a not-expecting-much mode, that's why.
According to some source that I had read about last time, it's a sequel to Double Tap (2000 Film), whereby Leslie Cheung plays a role similar to Louis Koo, a shooting champion which has something to do with a shooting accident. But in Double Tap, Leslie Cheung's role was a shooting champion which turned rogue after a mentally disturbing shooting accident.

*Double Tap - To place two exact shots in the same spot to maximize marksmanship.
*Triple Tap - An upgraded version of skill mastery of Double Tap by placing three exact shots in the same spot.

Along the way, he meets a spirit medium, Ng Kwan-Yau (Jessica Hsuan), who somehow gets caught up in a mysterious murder case. It is not Lun’s intention to intervene at first, but with the fortuitous assistance from the pillow spirit Ngau Tai-Lik (Johnson Lee), he can finally crack the case and prove Yau’s innocence. Lun has his confidence back and pledges to continue his fight for justice.

As time progresses, Lun and Yau get to know each other better and gradually fall in love. Lun finally decides to get over the past and marry the girl. He enjoys his married life so much but gets frustrated at work sometimes - Lik’s power turns out not to be as strong as expected, which ends up with a lot of misleading clues being given. Amidst the various challenges of his new life, Lun realizes that Yau seems to have something to hide and that there is a malicious plot behind their marriage. Knowing that the couple have fallen out, Lun’s mother has found him a new wife, Luk Siu-Tip (Leila Tong). Out of the blue, Tip has also come with ill intentions. Lun is plunged into a complex web of intrigue and things seem to be getting on top of him...

Review part 1:
Okay... as usual, synopsis above are from other sources, but this time, I think it's really badly done. So I'll just summarise the show with what I could still remember. (I'm writing this review after watching several films & dramas)

My own Summary:
Sze Sai-Lun / 施世伦 (Bobby Au-yeung) turns dispirited after his 2 wives and children died & disappeared in the midst of sea. His magical pillow which aids him in solving mysteries cases were lost in the process too. Therefore, he started to lead a carefree life until one day, he met this medium, Kwan-Yau (Jessica Hsuen). He wanted to seek this medium's help to locate his wives, but later found out that she's a con-artist. So several things happened in between, and Sze-Lun happened to meet a new pillow fairy (Johnson Lee). Pillow fairy is still working his way up to become a deity, so he does not own much abilities, when aiding Sai-Lun in solving mysteries, he would often give out misleading hints which would take Sai-Lun a very hard time to solve. Sai-Lun eventually married Kwan-Yau, thinking that she was a great woman, but on the day of marriage, Yau found out that Lun is actually the magistrate that accused her brother as the murderer of a case 5 years ago. So Yau planted herself in Sze Family, trying to avenge.
When she finally got her chance, she was touched by how the Sze Family treated her by divorcing her, so as to get her out of trouble. Their misunderstandings were eventually cleared in the later part of the serial drama, and her brother was released after 5 years of prisonment.
Sai-Lun & Kwan-Yau's relationship were extremely good after going through live & death.

On the other hand was the Romance of Constable So Ying-tsun / Guuwalgiya Jinchun (Joel Chan) [son of the Eighth Prince] and Ting Mei-Yan (Leila Tong).
Ying-tsun thought that Mei-yan was just a daughter of a typical family which wanted to have affiliations with royalty, therefore he canceled the marriage on the day of marriage, leaving Mei-yan disheartened and brought shame to her family. She wanted to avenge for such humiliation so she set out to find this man. Before she knew that Ying-Tsun is actually Jinchun, she had a great likings on him, but after knowing, she tried all means to get him into trouble.
Both of them eventually got together after several obstacles.

Review part 2:
This show is considered a fairytale, having not just fantasy involved in the show, but also have a happy ending. Riddles & hints given out by Pillow Fairy were too hard that I couldn't get them right at all, unlike th0se in 1st series, where the hints are all straightforward & requires not much of twist-thinking.
Still, hard riddles didn't affect the show's ratings after all, but I finds the show a little bit draggy, though rather acceptable.

谈情说案 / The Mysteries of Love (2010 Drama)
(27 August 2010/9:31 PM)

Chinese Title: 谈情说案
English Title: The Mysteries of Love
Producer: Lau Kar Ho (刘家豪)
Genre: Modern, Romance & Mystery
Number of Episodes: 25
Starring:
Raymond Lam / 林峰
Tavia Yeung / 杨怡
Kenneth Ma / 马国明
Bernice Liu / 廖碧儿

Synopsis:
This is a love story between a professor and a policewoman. Their dating experience is enhanced with sense and sensibility through the application of interesting physics theories on the investigation of various crime cases.

Kingsley King (Raymond Lam) is regarded as the youngest genius in physics and he is appointed as an associate professor in a Hong Kong university. Invited by his good friend Gordon (Kenneth Ma), Senior Inspector of Police at Regional Crime Unit, Kingsley assists in cracking many mysterious crime cases and he also meets policewoman Sai Lei Mui /犀利妹 (Tavia Yeung) during the process. The rational Kingsley evaluates that he has fallen in love with Sai Lei Mui because of a neurotransmitter called phenylethylamine*. However, owing to the huge difference in their family background and life value, Kingsley fails to tackle their ever-changing relationship problems with formulas. In the end, due to life changing experiences, Kingsley realizes that love cannot be rationalized and finally admits that his feelings to Sai Lei Mui are true.

On the other hand, the romantic and uninhibited Gordon has been maintaining a sex only relationship with the journalist Nickole (Bernice Liu). Gordon doesn't believe in eternity and he is only looking for sensual pleasure in a woman. However, his belief is suddenly shattered when he learns that Nickole is going to get married.

*phenylethylamine - As Kingsley and Sai Lei Mui spends a lot of time together during their investigations on mysteries-crime, chemistry broke out between them eventually. Kingsley used this physics term to explain his 'love' for Sai Lei Mui when he offered the break-up.

Review:
This is one of the not-bad 2010 drama series I've watched.
But still not the best I've watched.
Great and fresh concept for the mystery part as they turned out to be unexpected for me.
But some were really '老更', I knew what's gonna happen..
So, very contradicting on the freshness side though.
As for acting part, I think Lau Kar Ho really did a great job there, having the casts arranged so well.
Raymond Lam's just being himself, the feel is there, perfectly well.
Tavia Yeung suits her role for being a strong & righteous yet gentle policewoman.
Kenneth Ma & Bernice Liu also had their roles illustrated adequately well.

Review :
One of the first few memorable movies that I had watched when I was young.
When I first watched it, I didn't know that all these casts were actually popular celebrities such as Andy Lau, Jacky Cheung & Aaron Kwok.
All I know was that the roles were related to Street Fighter; the first video game I had came into contact with.
Besides being related to Street fighter, Dicky Cheung appeared as Sun Goku too, the main character of Dragon ball franchise, as well as Nobita of Doraemon.
Andy Hui starred as Gian/Suneo, both the bully and rich kid role while Charlie Yeung roled as Shizuka, the girl that Nobita fantasise over.
This movie can be considered my childhood all-time favourite,
along with Ten Brothers/十兄弟 (1995 Film)

Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games Day 10
(/3:33 PM)

Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games (YOG)

Audrey clinched Singapore's sixth

Sixth medal - Bronze
Girls' Techno 293 Windsurfing event
Surfer: Audrey Yong, 15

Audrey finished third in place with 43 points, while the gold medalist finished with 22 points.

Singapore's sailing campaign at the Youth Olympic Games ended on a disappointing note after windsurfer Audrey Yong emerged the only medal winner at the East Coast Park on Wednesday afternoon.

Darren, 16, who had been Singapore's main gold-medal hope, was 12th in the final race of the 12-race regatta. He finished seventh overall on 78 points.
The double Byte world champion ended his campaign 34 points behind winner Ian Barrows of the US Virgin Islands.

Audrey, 15, who started the day in fifth place, finished third in the last race of the Girls Techno 293, behind Veronica Fanciulli of Italy and Anastasiya Valkevic of Belarus.

Audrey had ensured that the Republic did not leave empty-handed during the medal ceremony at the National Sailing Centre (NSC).
The Mayflower Secondary student, fifth overall before yesterday's race, crossed the finish line to leapfrog two competitors and clinch the Techno 293 bronze.
The sight of her arriving, with the Singapore flag stuck at the top of her sail, was marked by delighted screams from the YOG volunteers at the NSC.
Singapore sailing stuffs even waved pom-poms to welcome her.

Added Audrey, the 2009 Asian Youth Games bronze medallist: 'I felt like an underdog throughout this competition. But this shows that it can be your time to shine if you put in the hard work.'

Cubs 4-1 Montenegro for Captain, Coach & Country

Seventh medal - Bronze
Football
Singapore's Under-15
Football Team

Cubs doing the fishing celebration as they scored their 3rd goal, leading Montenegro 3-1 in the second half.
They had seen the 'fishing' celebration - in which Icelandic club Stjarnan's players mimic the catching of a big fish - on YouTube. So striker Muhaimin Suhaimi decided that it would be a good idea to use it during the Games.

The Cubs did it for captain Jeffrey Lightfoot, sent to hospital with a bloodied face just minutes into the game.

They also did it for David Sivalingam, their former coach who died of a heart attack last year.

But most importantly, they did it for themselves, three days after a demoralising semi-final loss to Haiti that crushed the host nation's hopes of a Youth Olympics gold medal.

Redemption arrived for Singapore's Under-15 football team yesterday, courtesy of a thumping 4-1 win over Montenegro in their play-off for third place at the Jalan Besar Stadium.

Hanafi, who failed to find the net in Singapore's three earlier matches, scored twice in front of a crowd that was visibly smaller than the 6,000-strong throng that had packed Jalan Besar Stadium to watch Singapore beat Montenegro 3-2 last Tuesday and lose 0-2 to Haiti in the semi-finals on Sunday.

Singapore responded appropriately by taking just six minutes to break the deadlock through Hanafi, who picked up a pass and brushed aside his markers before slotting the ball past Montenegro goalkeeper Marko Kordic.

However, the Cubs' joy was short-lived. Two minutes after the goal, skipper Jeffrey Lightfoot suffered a bad cut on his head and had to be substituted.
The situation worsened two minutes later when Montenegro equalised through Jovan Baosic. The defender was unmarked when a free-kick was floated in and had all the time in the world to power his header past Singapore keeper Fashah Rosedin.

The match ended 1-1 at half-time.

5 minutes later in the Second half, Hanafi scored his second goal of the match and tournament when he received Bryan Neubronner's cross at the edge of Montenegro box and slammed his shot past Kordic.

Referee Norbert Hauata spotted a Montenegro player tugging at the jersey of one of the Singapore players, thus a penalty was given in the 56th minute.
Midfielder Ammirul Mazlan did not let us down, he sent Kordic the wrong way to give Singapore a comfortable lead of 3-1.

Ammirul then made it a night to remember for the Cubs and the Jalan Besar faithful when he headed Hanafi's 65th-minute free-kick into the Montenegro net to make it 4-1.

SHENG's views

Seven is most probably the amount of medals Singapore will receive and seventh would probably be the last in this inaugural Youth Olympic Games event.
Having at least a participant in all 26 sports, Singapore ended with seven medals - 2 of which from Taekwondo, 1 each from Swimming, Archery, Table Tennis, Sailing & Football.
Singaporeans Youth Athletics learnt their lessons and gained experiences through their defeats and losses. They ought to feel disappointed, losing after putting in their best and efforts, but at the same time, feel proud and contented for being able to take part in it.
Most importantly, know that it's not over yet, there's a longer path behind.
Memories will stay in them and in the future, they will rise again as Singapore's pride in the Olympics.

To sum up..

On day 2, Daryl won Singapore's first medal by defeating Myanmar's taekwondo exponent.
He had never imagined that he would create history by becoming Singapore's first medalist in the inaugural Youth Olympic Games.

On the same day 2, Shafinas made a clean sweep in the quarter-finals, scoring 9-0 against her Kiribatian opponent. She's a remarkable feat, being a netball player for 4 years in Singapore Sports School, she took up this sport again after giving up on it over studies
Two months after rejoining, she win gold at the Singapore Elite Youth Champs and silver at Asian Cities Gold Cup.

Raffles Institution student, Rainer Ng clocked a time of 26.45, merely 0.09 seconds behind winner, and clinched Singapore's first silver.
He was supposed to take his A levels this year, but he stopped school for this. It's all worth it.

On day 5, Archer Abdud won the 4th medal and also the 3rd bronze, after winning with his turkey teammate in the mixed team relay. Needed a perfect score of 20 to win their Bangladeshi and Spain opponent, Abdud's teammate Elif shot a 10.
Abdud, under pressure, shot a 10 too, winning the bronze medal with a high-score of 20-19,

Day 8, Isabelle Li brought us to watch her in the Women Table Tennis Single's final.
She defeated her Thai opponent in quarter-finals 4-0 and made it to the finals.
In the final, she faced China's top seed and World Under-15 Number 1, Gu Yuting.
She gave her all in the match, but was apparently no match for World Number 1.
Nonetheless, she still did us proud.

Singapore's Top seed and Junior World Champion Sailer, Darren Choy, finished 7th overall in his face. Causing disappointment not just to people around him, but most to himself.

On day 8, Audrey started off her race as 5th and ended 3rd overall, clinching Singapore's 6th medal and 4th Bronze.

On day 8 night, Singapore faced Haiti in the semi-finals and lost 2-0.
Though the Cubs crushed Singapore's hope for first gold, they managed to rescued some pride by earning the Bronze medal by beating Montenegro 4-1 on day 10 night.

Film Name : 七剑 / Seven Swords
Directed by : Tsui Hark (徐克)
Produced by : Tsui Hark (徐克)
Starring : Donnie Yen, Leon Lai & Charlie Yeung (甄子丹, 黎明 & 楊采妮)
Other cast includes : Zhang Jingchu (张静初)
Running Time : 153 minutes

Plot :
In the mid-1600s, the Manchurians have taken over sovereignty of China and established the Qing Dynasty. While nationalistic sentiments start brewing within the martial artists' community (Jianghu), the Qing government immediately imposes a "Martial Arts Ban" (禁武令), forbidding the common people to practice martial arts. This is a means of maintaining law and order, as well as provide the Qing government with sufficient reason to put down any potential rebellion by nationalist martial artists. Fire-Wind, a military officer who formerly served the fallen Ming Dynasty, sees the new law as an opportunity for himself to make fortune by assisting the government in executing the law. Greedy, cruel and immoral, Fire-Wind ravages northwest China, killing thousands of martial artists as well as innocent civilians with his army. His next goal is to attack the final frontier Martial Village (武莊), which, as its name suggests, is a home to a number of martial artists.

Fu Qingzhu (Liu Chia-Liang), a retired executioner who served the previous dynasty, feels the urge to stop Fire-Wind's brutality and he sets forth to save the village from the incoming Qing forces. He brings Han Zhibang and Wu Yuanying (Charlie Yeung) from the village with him to Mount Heaven (天山) to seek help from the hermit Master Shadow-Glow, a master swordsmith and martial artist. Shadow-Glow agrees to help and sends his four disciples Chu Zhaonan (Donnie Yen), Yang Yuncong (Leon Lai), Xin Longzi and Mu Lang to follow Fu and the two villagers on their quest. He also gives the seven of them each a special sword he forged and the seven title themselves the "Seven Swords" (七剑).

As they lead the entire village to the road of a safer place, they begin to encounter mysterious confusion. Food and water is poisoned, and trails of escape are marked with signs leading the enemy to them. They soon realize that there is an undercover spy, and the Seven Swords must identify him before Wind Fire's army gets to them. Between this narrow gap of life and death, the situation is further complicated by the blossoms of love.

Trailer :

Review:
After the movie, when I was preparing my review, then did I know that Wu Yuanying was starred by Charlie Yeung.
Charlie Yeung made her first film debut in one of the first movies I had watched when I was a kid; 超级街头霸王 / Future Cops (1993 Film)
I'll blog on that film some other time..
As for Leon Lai, I think this is how he got his appearance in 十月围城 / Bodyguards and Assassins (2010 Film) - the look of a beggar which resembles a scholar as he can be seen with a fan in this film too.
Oh yes, Zhang Jingchu appeared in this movie too, and after watching this movie just today, I found out that Zhang Jingchu always take part intimate scenes, some even erotic.
Anyway, I find her super hot.
And yes, according to some sayings, she may just overtake Zhang Ziyi one day, turning into an international actress, as she studied English in Beijing New Oriental Institute and is fluent in the language, as compared to Zhang Ziyi, who is still trying her very best to master it.
In my next 3 movie reviews -Triple Tap, City Under Siege and Aftershocks, Zhang Jingchu starred in the latter 2 and as the main lead in the latter.
Just wait for this rising beauty to be a star one day.

Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games Day 8
(/5:11 PM)

Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games (YOG)

Silver is the colour of the medal hung around I.Li

Fifth medal - Silver
Women's Table Tennis Singles' Event
Paddler: Isabelle Li, 15

(From Left) Singapore's Isabelle Li, China's Gu Yuting and South Korea's Yang Han Eun

Isabelle Li (above left) who swept Thailand's Suthasini Sawettabut 4-0 in Monday morning's semi-finals, gave her all against the top-seeded Gu. However, the difference in standards was clear for all to see.
The 15-year-old Singapore Sports School student tried her best to win Team Singapore's first Youth Olympic Games gold medal, but apparently, the World Under-15 No.1 is too good.
The final scores: 11-9, 11-5, 11-8, 11-9.

Isabelle may have frustrated her previous opponents with her defensive style of play but Gu, who beat South Korea's Yang Han Eun 4-1 in her semi-final, overcame that with her aggression, speed and accurate smashes.
The World Under-15 No. 1, who won the doubles and mixed doubles titles at the 2009 World Junior Championships, raced to a 2-0 lead within 14 minutes after beating Isabelle 11-9 and 11-5 in the first two sets.

Up next for Isabelle is the Mixed Team event where she will pair up with team mate Clarence Chew. In this event, which begins on Tuesday, the paddlers will start their group stage campaign with three matches against Intercontinental 2, Egypt and Africa 1.

Isabelle is already a feat, being able to make it to the Finals.
Nonetheless, her opponent wasn't easy at all, she is the
World Under-15 Champion, as well as China's top seed.
Take note that China has a population of over 1.3 billion people... so being the China's top seed wouldn't be some Tom, Dick or Harry, eh?
Read on to find out how strong this "Tom, Dick or Harry" is..

Back into 2009

During the Singapore Asian Youth Games (AYG) in 2009, China's top seed appeared and clinched several medals. To be exact, Gu Yuting of China won 2 golds and 1 silver.

On the extreme left stood the YOG 2010's Women Table Tennis Singles Gold Medalist.
It was during the AYG 2009 when she competed in the girls' singles and won Silver, losing to her China's teammate. North Korea and Japan shared the Bronze.

Gu Yuting and her 3 fellow China teammates brought home the Gold and Silver in the Mixed Doubles, while Japan and South Korea shares the bronze.

China did not win medals from 2 positions this time, but the amount of medals won stayed the same as Mixed Doubles as they clinched Gold in the Mixed Event.
North Korea got the Silver while Singapore shared the Bronze with Chinese Taipei.

Yes, and I didn't forget about Team Singapore.
The 2 individuals on the extreme left and right are Isabelle Li and Clarence Chew respectively.
Both of them, along with Chau Hai Qing and Tay Jit Kiat, are the Bronze medalist at Asian Youth Games Table Tennis tournament.
Li and Chew will compete in the Mixed Team later...

Not just yet..

2010 Youth Olympic Games Women Table Tennis Singles' Gold Medalist, 2009 Asian Youth Games Women Table Tennis Singles' Silver Medalist, Mixed Doubles Gold Medalist and Mixed Event Gold medalist, World Under-15 Number 1 and China's Top Seed - Gu Yuting (left) with teammate Chen Meng (right) in Girls' Double Event in Volkswagen 2009 World Junior Table Tennis Championships. (She won Gold in this event)

And YOG Women Table Tennis Singles' Bronze Medalist, Yang Han Eun from South Korea, was the Chinese duo's opponent in the match for Gold.

You must be...
Yes, YOU must be wondering why am I blogging about all these stuffs about China's Gu Yuting.
The reason is to let you peeps know how strong she is..
So people wouldn't think that Isabelle's not strong enough for Gold, but instead, Gold is too strong for her.

Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games Day 8
(23 August 2010/2:29 PM)

Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games (YOG)

A guaranteed fifth medal of Singapore

Fifth medal - Silver/Gold
Women's Table Tennis Singles' Event
Paddler: Isabelle Li, 15

Singapore's Isabelle Li made her way into the final with a 4-0 victory over Thailand's Suthasini Sawettabut in the girls' table tennis singles competition.

A guaranteed 5th medal for Singapore and she may create history either way; either by becoming Singapore's first female silver medalist of YOG or becoming Singapore's first gold medalist of YOG.

The 15-year-old Singapore Sports School student was in superb form as she blitzed past Thailand's Suthasini Sawettabut 4-0 in the semi-finals at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

Isabelle Lee put in a calm and measured performance against Suthasini whom she had defeated 4-1 in the South-east Asian Junior Championships final earlier this year.
Suthasini looked a pale shadow of the girl who had conquered Japan's Ayuka Tanioka 4-0 in the quarter-finals.
Ayuka had defeated Isabelle in the preliminary rounds and as such, Suthasini should have gained a lot of confidence from her triumph.

SINGAPORE >semi-finals> THAI >quarter-finals> JAPAN >preliminary> SINGAPORE

Isabelle, who competed in more than 20 tournaments around the world in the space of six months this year in preparation for the YOG, will face either China's Gu Yuting or South Korea's Yang Han Eun in this evening's final.

So peeps, cheer on her, okay?
She will do Singapore proud either ways.

EDIT: Isabelle Li will fight China's Gu Yu Ting in the finals later at 6.30pm.
Tune on to YOG Channel 1 (chnl 241) and support Isabelle!

On the other hand, Singapore cubs lost to the underdogs Haiti yesterday night, 0-2.
Good try already, Cubs.
But still, they could have played better.
Haiti is merely just a team formed for less than 2 months, with no infrastructure, no nothing.

And I think that Haiti players should really get themselves some sportsmanship -.-"
During the second half, it's like a drama show to me..
They're faking all the injuries just to waste time and earn themselves some free kicks..
But still, I admire their courage and determination.
After all, all they want is just to win some medals, so they could sell them and get some money.
Aftershock of the 2010 Haiti Earthquake, eh.

Back to the cubs, good luck on clinching the Bronze medals.

Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games (YOG)

Singapore's fourth medal

Fourth medal - Bronze
Archery Mixed Relay Event
Won by : Abdud Dayyan Mohamed Jaffar, 16

Singapore's Abdud Rayyan (right) with his teammate from Turkey, Begunhan Elif Unsal (left)

Archer Abdud Dayyan Mohamed Jaffar, 16, has won Singapore’s fourth medal at the Youth Olympic Games. He parternered Elif Begunham Unsal of Turkey to win bronze in the mixed team relay.
Needing a perfect score of 20 to beat Bangladesh's Mohamed Emdadul Haque Milon and Spain's Miriam Alarcon in the tie-breaking set as the Bangladeshi-Spanish duo scored a high score of 20-19.
Elif hit the bull’s eye to secure 10 points and Dayyan followed up with another bull’s eye to secure their medal by one point.

Singapore's three medals

First medal - Bronze
Taekwondo Boys-55kg
Won by : Daryl Tan, 17

Singapore's Daryl Tan (right) swinging a kick at Myanmar's Shein Naing Dwe Shein during the boys' taekwondo quarter-final on YOG Day 2 (16Aug)

Daryl Tan created Singapore sporting history by becoming the Republic's first medal-winner at the YOG.
In the quarter-finals, he defeated his Myanmar's opponent, Shein Naing Dwe Shein, with a score of 6-5.
As there are no play-offs for the bronze medal, it means that all losing semi-finalists will be assured of the bronze medal.

'Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine myself winning a medal - let alone being Singapore's first medallist,' said the teenager who received a bye to go straight into the last eight.

Second medal - Bronze
Taekwondo Girls-55kg
Won by : Nurul Shafinas, 17

Singapore's Shafinas (right) landing 1 of the 3 kicks-to-the-head to Kaburee Ioane, her Kiribatian opponent.

She made a clean sweep in the quarterfinals, scoring 9-0 in the opening round against Ioane Kaburee (KIR), scoring all the points through kicks to the head.
The referee stopped the bout with 59 seconds remaining in round one, after Shafinas landed three straight kicks to her opponent’s head for a 9-0 lead.

Shafina's participation itself at the YOG is a remarkable feat, considering that she was a netball player with the Singapore Sports School for four years. She trained sporadically in Taekwondo during her time at the Sports School and even gave up the sport a year in 2008 to concentrate on her studies.
But it is apparent that she has a talent for the martial art. Two months after rejoining the Singapore Taekwondo Federation last November, she went on to win gold at the Singapore Elite Youth Championships in January. She then landed a silver at the Asian Cities Gold Cup in Hong Kong a month later.

In the semifinals, she was narrowly beaten by Nguyen Thanh Thao (VIE) 9-8. The Vietnamese fighter lost to Jade Jones (GBR) on sudden death in the final.

Third medal - Silver
Swimming Boys- Backstroke 50m
Won by : Rainer Ng, 18

The 18-year-old finished second in the Boys' 50m backstroke final at the Singapore Sports School this evening in 26.45sec, just 0.09sec slower than winner Christian Homer of Trinidad and Tobago (26.36sec)

Rainer Ng, 18, clocked a time of 26.45sec at the Singapore Sports School, a mere 0.09sec behind winner Christian Homer of Trinidad and Tobago (26.36sec).
Interestingly, Rainer's winning time was slower than the 26.37sec that he clocked in Tuesday's semi-final, which enabled him to go into the final as the second fastest qualifier.

The silver medal is an affirmation that he had made the right choice - Rainer's decision to suspend his studies for a year to focus on training for the YOG and November's Asian Games in Guangzhou.
The Raffles Institution student was supposed to take his A levels this year. He stopped school in January.

Singapore has now won three medals at the YOG. Prior to Rainer's win, the Republic won already garnered bronzes in taekwondo from Nurual Shafinas Abdul Rahman and Daryl Tan.

Japan's Yuka bags first YOG Gold

Yuka Sato crosses the finish line and bags the Youth Olympics' first gold medal in 1:00:49.69.

The first gold medal to be handed out goes to Japan's Yuka Sato (centre), Australian Ellie Salthouse (left), 17, took the silver medal, and American Kelly Whitley (right), 17, the bronze.

The only competitor in the event with a top-10 finish at last year's World Junior Championships, Sato was one of the favourites to strike gold and she lived up to expectations. A surging run brought her to the front of the pack at the end of the first run leg, a lead she did not relinquish.

Australia's Ellie Salthouse, who won the YOG Oceania Qualifier as well as the 2009 Aquathlon World Championships finished a mere 14.7 sec behind in second (1hr 1 min 4.39 sec), with Kelly Whitley of the US taking third place.

Weightlifting
Vietnam's gold extra special

Thach Kim Tuan of Vietnam reacts after lifting 140kg in the men's 56kg weightlifting finals.
Kim cleared 140kg on his third and final attempt in the boys' 56kg clean-and-jerk yesterday to secure Vietnam's first gold medal in any Olympic competition. His earlier lift of 116kg in the snatch gave him a total weight of 256kg to secure the gold at Toa Payoh Sports Hall.

Tian Yuan of China clears a gold medal lift, during the women's 48kg weightlifting finals of the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games (YOG) at the Toa Payoh Sports Hall in Singapore.

Tian Yuan successfully lifted 85kg in the Snatch and 105kg in the Clean & Jerk categories.

Taekwondo
Easy taekwondo gold for Israel

ISRAELI Gili Haimovitz walked away with the boys' 48kg title on the first day of the taekwondo competition - without having to land a kick in the final.

The 17-year-old was handed the victory after Iran's Mohammad Soleimani, 16, pulled out moments before the final with a recurring leg injury.
