2010 NBA Finals

Boston Celtics vs. Los Angeles Lakers - GAME 1

The defending champs, Lakers, delivered an emphatic blow to the Celtics, winning 102-89 in Game 1 of the NBA Finals at Staples Center.

The Lakers huddle together before the start of the 2010 NBA Finals
Derek Fisher launches a jumper over the outstretched hand of Paul Pierce
Fisher had 9 points and three assists.

Pau Gasol and Kevin Garnett will do battle in the post in one of the Finals' most important matchups. Pau Gasol had a terrific all-around game with 23 points, 14 rebounds and three blocks.

Kobe Bryant gets low to the ground as he tries to work his way past Ray Allen.
Leading the way for the Lakers in the series opener was Kobe Bryant, who had a game-high 30 points, seven rebounds and six assists. He has now scored 30-plus in 10 of his last 11 contests.

Paul Pierce and Ron Artest got it going early, picking up double technicals in the game's opening minutes.
Artest had 15 points, 4 rebounds and one assist.
Phil Jackson maps the Lakers' strategy in the huddle during Game 1.
No one is forgetting how dominating Phil Jackson's teams are after winning Game 1 in a series. His haven't lost, a perfect 47-0. And a reminder of the goal was apparent in the Lakers' locker room after the game.
The Lakers defense was strong in Game 1, holding the Celtics to 43.3 percent shooting and only 1-for-10 from 3-point range.
Kevin Garnett seemed to lack lift in Game 1, coming up short on several shots around the basket. Garnett finished with 16 points but only four rebounds.

Rajon Rondo does an impersonation of Michael Jordan's logo as he takes the ball to the rack.
Rondo had 13 points, 8 assists & 6 rebounds which includes 4 offensive ones.
Paul Pierce made this jumper despite Ron Artest's attempt to disrupt his rhythm and more importantly, his sight.
Pierce had 24 points, 9 rebounds & four assists.

Rasheed Wallace had nine points and four rebounds off the bench for the Celtics.

Boston did show some fight at the start of the fourth quarter. Trailing by 20 points, the Celtics whittled the deficit to 85-74 after a 10-1 run. But the Lakers answered.
The play that seemingly sapped the energy out of the Celtics was a block by Artest on Glen Davis, which led to a Gasol dunk.

"We didn't come out with that fire that we've been showing these playoffs," Celtics forward Tony Allen said.
"They outhustled us today. ...I don't think we took that first punch like we should have."

Boston Celtics 89 - Los Angeles Lakers 102.
LAL lead series 1-0.
