Biography
Name : 樊少皇 / Louis Fan Siu-Wong
Born : 19/06/1973
Place of birth : Hong Kong, China
Introduction : Due to his father's occupation, Fan started off as a Child Star in his early years, as young as only 9 years old. At the age of 14, on the request of his father, he traveled to Xuzhou to take up martial arts. In Xuzhou, Fan studied gymnastics, kung fu and taekwondo. Fan began his career as an action star in the mid 1980's.
In between 1995-1997, Fan acted in several TVB drama series. Most well-known for his role of 虚竹/Xu Zhu in 天龙八部/The Demi-gods & Semi-devils (1996) .
After a few more participation in TV dramas in Taiwan & China, Fan left the TV industry and strictly focused on movies; although at then, he has already took part in 14 movie films, he is still not internationally known yet.
Fan is best known for his role of Riki in 力王/Riki-oh: The Story of Ricky (1991), at the age of 18. This film was notorious for its amount of violence, and became famous on the internet as soon as it's posted up.
Fan is most recognised as 金山找/Jin Shanzhao in 叶问/Ip Man (2008), as the tough Northern-stylist; he reprises his role in the sequel, 叶问2/Ip Man II (2010)
After being sent to Xuzhou to take up martial arts, Fan mastered the '十八般武艺'
Known to be '18 martial arts' but in fact, I'm not really sure what it is.
Some says it's a combination of martial arts, skills & weapon-plays.
Whatever it is, Fan is really skilled.
Fan's dad said in an interview : '樊少皇是如今全香港惟一能够一口气做十八个后空单提的人'
Translation : 'Fan is one of the very few in Hong Kong that can do 18 somersaults single-handled at one go.'
成龙/Jackie Chan is the idol of Fan since young, and there's quite some connection between Jackie Chan and his dad. After the retiring-soon Jackie Chan met Fan, he felt considerable emotion. On an exception, he accepted Fan as his disciple. For the first time being master, Jackie Chan brought joy to the Movie Industry and felt glad & rather relieved for finding a successor.
Besides being good in martial arts, Fan is also considerable good in singing.
In an interview, Fan said with humour that it's a pity that he didn't go through any special vocal trainings, or he would be outstanding. He also mentioned that his dad is once the Hong Kong Mandarin Song Award winner after all.
